4 Star Review Very nice card and it worth the money

Strengths:

High performance; Perfect for gaming.

Weaknesses:

Loud and hot

Posted Sep 21, 2006 - The card it excellent. I like it very much. 256MB GDDR3 RAM, dual DVI etc. The only bad thing about it is that it easily gets hot and you might need a cooler for it. And a little bit noisy. Overall, it is a very good one and I recommend it.

4 Star Review Still a great card for the money

Strengths:

Fast 256MB GDDR3 VRAM, 16 pipes, Dual DVI inputs with DVI-to-VGA adapters for both, newer PCI-E x16 connection, (now) low price for performance, can be run in a CrossFire configuration.

Weaknesses:

Doesn't support Direct3D 9.0c (no SM3, HDR, etc.), stock cooling seems inadequate under load, dual slot configuration can block an adjacent open slot, limited gains and options in CrossFire setup.

Posted Aug 31, 2006 - If you're looking for a medium- to high-end card on a budget, you'd do well to consider this one. While it's a bit outdated (as far as cutting edge graphics cards go), the X850XT Platinum Edition has what it takes to make the great games of yesteryear scream, and performs quite well on newer ones, as well. The top-of-the-line card from ATI's X8xx series is still a great performer, and now a great value.

5 Star Review ATi Radeon X850XT PE Review

Strengths:

Fast and cheap

Weaknesses:

Not the fastest anymore

Posted Aug 31, 2006 - This is a great card for anyone looking for the best card for around $150. While it doesn't have SM 3.0, it has all other features that most recent games take advantage of. You won't be the king of the hill with this card, but at least it won't break the bank. Highly recommended.

4 Star Review Nice card for the money

Strengths:

Fast speed, low noise

Weaknesses:

size (takes up PCI Express slot and another open slot)

Posted Aug 25, 2006 - This has been a nice card for me. I was upgrading from a really old card so I noticed a great speed boost. The only complaint I have is that the card is rather large and takes up more room than a standard PCI express card. I had the extra room so it was not a big deal but if you are cramped for space you might be out of luck.

4 Star Review Radeon X850 XT Platinum Video Card A worthy Upgrade!

Strengths:

When you can get one for around $200 it's a great deal.

Weaknesses:

Paying the $500 they wanted for this.

Posted Aug 18, 2006 - There's always a newer better card and always at a price too. The abilities of the card made it a Great upgrade over the oem dell 300. Plug and play installation-load the drivers and you're done in 10 minutes. No conflicts with anything even an fm-tv card still works as it should. The fan noise everyone notices is just as loud as the others. It also blends in to the background noise from the other fans. It's not louder than my normal listening level. Naturally there a whole new level of games to play. But it seems like web pages load faster and image transition in photo shop is faster.

3 Star Review x850xt

Strengths:

PCIe, Dual DVI, Powerful

Weaknesses:

No SM 3.0, no HDR, loud fan, takes 2 slots

Posted Aug 16, 2006 - I upgraded this card from an x800 128MB. Was a nice performance improvement in most games. 256 MB is ample for most of the games. This was the most powerful card in it's generation for ATI. Dual DVI is a nice feature for my 2 LCDs. The fan on this is quite audible. My first card had a defective fan or temp sensor because the temp always stayed at about 80°C, and caused crashes and beeping. The new card fixed those errors, but unfortunately not the sound issue. It also takes up 2 slots due to the big fan. Having no support for SM 3.0 or HDR was an issue with me so I upgraded when I found a deal on a better card. But this one's not a bad card either. It's just... getting old now.

4 Star Review One of best in its time

Strengths:

fast, vivo , dual dvi

Weaknesses:

loud fan, needs power connector, sucks up mega power on full load

Posted Oct 1, 2006 - got this card for my silent pc but it turned out to be not so silent so i bought a zalman heatpipe cooler to quiet it down but then i decided i want to conserve more energy and bought a 7600gt with no fan.

3 Star Review ATI Radeon X850 XT Platinum Video Card

Strengths:

Dual DVI. High performance. GDDR3 RAM.

Weaknesses:

Two slots needed to install. Lack SM3.0(Shader Model 3.0)

Posted Jun 22, 2006 - This graphic card (16 pipes) is very powerful. (actually outperform Radeon X1600XT(12 pipes) except SM3.0) The downside is that you need two slots to install this card and it will limit your future addition of other PCI card. The fan can be controlled using ATI tray tools (google it) but only in Windows.

5 Star Review Radeon X850 XT Video Card

Strengths:

Powerful video card

Weaknesses:

LOUD FAN

Posted Jun 10, 2006 - I upgraded this video card from my old Gefore 6200, I can set the highest effect and detail for BF2, graphics is extremely sharp and smooth and it still runs flawlessly. Only thing is the noise from the fan is louder than old one.

5 Star Review AWESOME CARD!!!

Strengths:

Easy to install, fast, stable, high quality image

Weaknesses:

Fan is a little louder

Posted Jun 1, 2006 - This card is simply fantastic. Bought it to replace my old video card and this card was far away better than old card. The image quality is terrific, and the construction is solid. I ran 3dmark test for a whole day and the system didn't reboot once. I would highly recommend this card if you are not willing to pay extra expenses for the latest chipset.

4 Star Review Highly Recommended!

Strengths:

Stunningly beautiful graphics Capable of very high resolutions

Weaknesses:

Not a huge improvement over the X800 XT Expensive

Posted May 27, 2006 - Availability of this card has been low, and the price is quite high, but both of those facts are a result of the high performance of the X850. Overall, this is a very solid video card, but the X850 XT may be more appealing because it is less expensive than the X850 XT Platinum Edition. Lacking the “PE” designation means that our clock speeds are a few clicks slower. However, in my overclocking attempts of the other card attempts we managed to hit Platinum Edition speeds. Compared to the competition, the VisionTek XTASY X850 XT is simply faster in most games and allows higher playable quality settings. In the games that would benefit most from Anti-Aliasing the VisionTek XTASY X850 XT was able to play them with AA, at 1600x1200. The software bundle VisionTek offers is simple, but we like the included video cables that let us hook it up to an HDTV. If you are in the market for an X850 XT based video card the VisionTek XTASY X850 XT should be on the top of your list to check out. That said, the X800XL cards are starting to show in the marketplace for those of you interested in something a bit more affordable.

5 Star Review Excellent value for money

Strengths:

256MB GDDR3 RAM, PCI-E, 16-pipelines offers excellent performance for less than $200.

Weaknesses:

Loud stock fan, runs hot.

Posted May 21, 2006 - Card is an excellent performer for its price range. Runs hot straight out of the box with GPU temps hovering in the lower 80C range under load. Fan is noticeable at 50% power and annoying at 100% power unless speakers are cranked up to drown out fan noise. Recommend purchasing Arctic Cooling aftermarket cooler to replace stock hs&f. This will quiet down unit significantly as well as drop GPU/mem temps by ~8C. Overall still very pleased with the product and price.

4 Star Review Fast smooth PCI-E graphics card

Strengths:

DDR3, HDTV support, Dual DVI out

Weaknesses:

LOUD FAN

Posted May 20, 2006 - The stock fan was so loud, I had to replace it with an ATI 5 rev 2 fan. This was no small task because one of the coolers on my BVG mainboard interfered with one of the screws so I had to pull the stud. The board performs well. I used it on Tombraider Legend. The graphics were smooth and rich. Some people complain that the board will only do 1600x1200 digital--well that is what it says in the tech spec at Microcenter where I bought mine.- However, I have been running mine at 1920x1200 digital because that is what my 24inch monitor wants. Still runs games smoothly. I can open a window with Photoshop Elements grab it by the bar and shake it and it does go jerky-but what kind of a person would do that.

5 Star Review Excellet Video Card for Gamer and Non-Gamer

Strengths:

Very impressive performance. Graphics is as good as I've ever seen.

Weaknesses:

Can't find any so far.

Posted May 20, 2006 - I got this card with high expectations. It actually exceeded all those expectations. Graphics is extremely sharp and smooth, there's absolutely no delay on any of the applications or games I tried. Highly recommended.

4 Star Review Great Video card with high fan noise

Strengths:

Graphic power. Rendering ability. Plays almost every games on the current market.

Weaknesses:

Fan makes quite noise when it is under load.

Posted May 17, 2006 - This video card shows its true ability when playing games. I play BF2, and F.E.A.R. with this card without any problems. The frame rate at 1280*1024 is very high and works wonderfully with 1907 Dell LCD monitor. One downside is that its fan noise becomes noticeable when you play graphic intensive games. Depends on when kind of case you own, the noise may be negligible, however, my Antec Sonata case lets the fan blowing noise out very easily.
